May Morning

This watercolour painting was inspired by a walk in Avebury, Wiltshire on a warm morning in late May. My attention was drawn to the bright spring green of the grasses and the intense yellow buttercups, all emphasised by a combination of broken cloud and strong sunlight.

This piece is painted mostly in watercolour, with just a few details in acrylic ink and coloured pencil to build up layers of foliage in the foreground. The colours are vibrant and luminous, with the heavy sky adding atmosphere.
