I’m pleased to report that Marlborough Open Studios was a great success, and a very enjoyable experience too! New work went up on the walls, lots of people came to look at it and even bought some of it! I love it when a plan comes off.
I’ve realised over the years that art enthusiasts are a loyal bunch. They do kind things like ask questions about your motivation and techniques, listen carefully to your answers, follow your efforts over the years and covet your work – it’s all quite humbling.
It was also reassuring to realise that other people share my passion for the local countryside through the seasons, and the little glimpses of loveliness that you spot everywhere if you have time to look. They notice when you’ve tried a new painting technique or gone off in a different direction, and they’ll give their opinion in the nicest possible way – always useful!
With MOS now out of the way for another year, my next projects are coming up fast.
Starting on 14th August my work will be in the main high street window of the Corsham Gallery, Wiltshire. I’m hoping to display a couple of my large-scale watercolours to catch the attention of passers-by, and then fill the window with smaller pieces.

Works will be in watercolour and gouache on paper, some of which will be float mounted to show the deckle-edge of the paper. Most will include an element of drawing buried under layers of translucent washes, textures and marks. As it will be my first time showing at the gallery, I’m keeping the theme and inspiration local to the area. With so much beautiful countryside to admire, it seems the natural way to go.
The show lasts until 28th August and I hope to be in the gallery at some point to meet visitors and have a chat. Dates and times will be posted on my Instagram page as soon as they’re confirmed. I’d love to see you there.
Another new venture in the pipeline is my involvement with the Made in Pewsey Gallery in Wiltshire. This brand new gallery, founded by three local creatives will open its doors on 26th September with a group show. More on that story next month, along with updates on Swindon Open Studios.
Have a great summer.
Kate
